In the examples above, I captured a sequence of drops hitting the surface of water or colliding.
A circular splash (an umbrella drop) is created by releasing two drops one after another. After the first drop hits the surface of water, it bounces back up, creating a column of water. At this time the second drop catches up to the first one. The collision creates the splash.
Solenoid Interface Board and Water Valve Kit (UPT_VALVE_KIT1) and the timer (UPT_KIT1C) was used to to dispense and synchronize the drops. In the above photos I used multiple units to create the above effects.
The timer setup was very similar to the falling drop in the previous Water Drop example. However, in this case the pictures were taken in a dark room. The Universal Photo Timer was used to activate the flash. The delay was set to catch the exact moment of the collision.
